التعريف

نوع من النطاطات قصيرة قرون الاستشعار وتتبع فصيلة اكريديدي (النطاط والجراد) ، رتبة مستقيمة الأجنحة. ويُعد الجراد الصحراوي أهم أنواع الجراد نظراً لاتساع رقعة انتشاره التي تبلغ ما يقرب من 29 مليون كم2 تمتد من غرب أفريقيا إلى الهند، ويؤثر على ما يزيد عن 57 قطر. وللجراد الصحراوي مظهرين مختلفين هما المظهر الانفرادي والمظهر التجمعي. ويمكن للجراد التجمعي أن يشكل أسراب كثيفة متحركة (من الحشرات الكاملة )أو يشكل مجموعات من الحوريات التي تسبب خسائر جسيمة لمحاصيل ونباتات عديدة متنوعة. وتأخذ الحشرات الكاملة التجمعية غير الناضجة اللون القرنفلي وعند نضجها جنسيا يتغير لونها إلى الأصفر الزاه. أما الحشرات الكاملة الانفرادية فلونها أسمر أو بني شاحب (يميل للرمادي). وتطير أسراب الجراد الصحراوي مع اتجاه الريح، وتقطع مسافات تتراوح ما بين 100- 200 كم في اليوم. وحجم أنثى الجراد الصحراوي عادة أكبر من حجم الذكر. وللجراد الصحراوي عدة أجيال في السنة.

Definition

A species of short-horned grasshopper which belongs to the family Acrididae, order Orthoptera. It is probably the most important locust species because it has a vast invasion area of some 29 million km² extending from West Africa to India, affecting more than 57 countries. Desert Locust has two different phases: solitarious and gregarious. Gregarious locusts can form dense mobile swarms (of adults) or hopper bands (of nymphs) which can cause considerable damage to a wide variety of crops and vegetation. Immature gregarious adults are pink in colour, while the sexually mature gregarious adults are a bright yellow colour. Solitarious adults are a pale brown colour. Desert Locust swarms fly downwind and are displaced up to 100-200 km in a day. Females are usually larger than males. Desert Locust can produce several generations per year.
